Who is Austin Cindric?

Austin Cindric is set to challenge the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) title. This multi-talented 19-year old career driver already opened his campaign for Roush Fenway Racing at the Daytona Speedway last month in a No. 60 PIRTEK Ford Mustang. Alongside a team consisting of Ty Majeski and Chase Briscoe, it looks like he will be taking part in all the 33 events. However, he will do this with 2 teams. For Roush Fenway, he will take part in 9 events. He will cover the rest of the events under the Team Penske banner.  He could find himself competing in the Talladega, Dover, Bristol, and Richmond Dash for Cash events behind the wheel of the No 12 or No 22 Ford Mustang.

He showed potential when he made his NXS debut with the No 22 Ford Mustang. Had he not suffered a tire cut in the penultimate stages of the race, he was on course for an impressive top 10 finish. Of course, his 6th place finish in the Rolex 24 at Daytona only cements the teen’s credentials. He has already racked up a win in 2017 at the Chevrolet Silverado 250.

Born in 1998, Austin has shown a steady growth in the sport. With roots in the Skip Barber Racing School, he was setting himself up for championships with a Bronze win at the 2014 X Games in Austin. At his age, he has been behind some powerful wheels as he finished 7th in a No 63 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Controversy, however, follows him as he has to ward off harsh sentiments over his ‘last resort’ maneuver that caused competitor Kaz Grala to spin out.

Cindric comes from a line of racers. He is the son of Team Penske President Tim Cindric. His grandfather, Jim Trueman was an Indycar team owner.
